RDRC staff commemorate Genocide against the Tutsi
Kigali witnessed a poignant commemoration on May 30, 2024, at the solemn halls of the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC) headquarters, marking the 30th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsis. Bringing together employees and commissioners alike, the event served as a profound moment of remembrance and introspection.
The proceedings commenced with a somber tribute, as attendees observed a one-minute silence in honor of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis. Following this solemn moment, an engaging discourse on the historical backdrop of the genocide unfolded, guided by the eloquent words of Jean Claude Karangwa Sewase, representing Minubumwe.
"Rwanda's journey towards reconciliation and unity is a testament to our resilience in the face of adversity," remarked Karangwa. "The intervention of RPF Inkotanyi forces played a pivotal role in halting the genocide, igniting a flame of hope and renewal within our nation."
In his address, Karangwa underscored Rwanda's collective pride in its ability to rebuild and cultivate a sense of confidence among its populace. "Despite the scars of the past, we stand united, determined to forge a future anchored in solidarity and mutual understanding," he added.
Echoing these sentiments, RDRC Chairperson Madame Nyirahabineza Valerie emphasized the profound lesson of unity and resilience that Rwanda offers to the world. "Our post-genocide journey is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Rwandan people," she stated. "It is through healing and solidarity that we pave the path towards a united future."
Established in 1997, RDRC assumes a pivotal role in fostering unity and resilience among Rwandans, particularly ex-combatants. Beyond its statutory obligations, the commission serves as a beacon of hope, guiding all ex-combatants towards a future built on shared understanding and cooperation.
