RDRC and Ex-Combatants Join Citizens in Musanze to Build Home for Vulnerable Family
Musanze District, Gataraga Sector – In a moving demonstration of solidarity, Commissioners from the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), alongside ex-combatants from the 75th intake at Mutobo Demobilisation Centre and local residents, came together in a community work (Umuganda) that is giving a new lease of life to Ms. Pauline Ayingeneye, a vulnerable resident of Kabaya Village, Rubindi Cell.
The activity, held in Gataraga Sector, saw participants dismantle Ms. Ayingeneye’s dilapidated house, mould bricks, and prepare materials for the construction of a new, dignified home. The work will continue in collaboration between RDRC and the local community until completion.
Hon. Nyirahabineza Valérie, President of RDRC, praised the spirit of cooperation demonstrated by the ex-combatants, citizens, and leaders who participated. She called on the community to sustain such initiatives that strengthen development and preserve Rwanda’s hard-won peace and security.
With tears of gratitude, Ms. Ayingeneye saluted the collective effort: “This home will be a dream fulfilled. I am deeply thankful to my neighbours, the Mutobo ex-combatants, and above all, to His Excellency the President of the Republic, whose people-centred leadership makes this possible.”
The former FDLR combatants and others undergoing Pre-Discharge Orientation Programme (PDOP) at Mutobo reaffirmed their commitment to Rwanda’s progress: “Nothing can undo what Rwanda has achieved. We are here to build, not destroy.” as they sing after community work.
In its message, the RDRC urged those still in armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including FDLR and its affiliates, to lay down arms and return home, emphasising that Rwanda remains a land of peace, dignity, and opportunity.
