Mutobo: Young Graduates Called to Harness Rwanda's Opportunities
During a graduation ceremony at Mutobo Technical Secondary School (Mutobo TSS) in Gataraga Sector, Musanze District, 20 students received certificates in vegetable farming, fruit cultivation, and floriculture. The Center Manager of Mutobo Demobilisation Center, Retired Major Cyprien Mudeyi, representing the Chairperson of the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), delivered an inspiring message to the graduates, urging them to use the available opportunities for their own development.
“You have a country that loves you and provides opportunities for growth,” he stated. “Use the knowledge you have gained here to build a brighter future for yourselves while upholding Rwandan values and culture. Development starts with unity and a commitment to progress.”
He emphasized the importance of innovation, encouraging graduates to embrace technology and produce goods for local and international markets. He also thanked Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) and the NEET Project for their support in sustaining the school.
Retired Major Mudeyi urged the youth to create jobs for themselves and others, contributing to the nation's economic growth. “Security is the foundation of development. Protect the peace we have and work hard to transform your lives,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert Mulindangabo, Reserve Forces Commander, while delivering his remarks, reminded the graduates that while previous generations fought for Rwanda’s liberation, today’s youth must lead the fight for development.
“Our struggle now is economic growth,” he said. “Use the skills you have acquired to shape a prosperous future. Love your country and defend its values, even at great personal cost.”
The graduates shared their experiences and aspirations. Patrick Nizeyumukiza, trained in horticulture, expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
“I spent two years unemployed after completing secondary school, but this program changed my life,” he said. “I now earn over RWF 100,000 a month and plan to create jobs for others.”
Aliane Uwikunda, another graduate, turned to modern farming after her studies. “I struggled after failing to secure a scholarship for university. But through this program, I’ve started growing eggplants and potatoes, and I’m confident of earning at least RWF 300,000 each season,” she said.
Mutobo TSS Principal Justin Tegereza praised the role of partners like RTB and NEET Project. “Our school provides vocational training and secondary education, helping students transition into productive careers. Many of our alumni are excelling in agriculture, tailoring, and other fields,” he said.
Founded in 2019, Mutobo TSS has trained over 1,000 students, equipping them with skills in agriculture, livestock farming, tailoring, and beyond. The institution is committed to welcoming youth from all backgrounds, providing them with the tools to succeed in life.
Furthermore, Mutobo TSS, with the support of the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), offers vocational training to ex-combatants transitioning from military service to civilian life. This equips them with valuable skills and knowledge, enabling them to rebuild their lives, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.
